ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday morning at 7:48 a.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a three-vehicle collision on the 100 block of Randolph Road near Sherwood Forest Drive in Colesville where one burning vehicle forced an adult female to free herself while responders extricated an adult male and a second adult female from another vehicle, and two occupants in a third vehicle declined hospital care—three individuals were hospitalized in serious condition and investigators are working to determine the cause. - ➤ An Insurance Institute for Highway Safety expert said Chevy Camaros are top targets for car thieves, with one high-end model reaching 39 times the average theft rate — a risk linked to ease of entry, while muscle cars and pickup trucks also face high theft risks. The expert noted that Hyundai and Kia have reduced vulnerability with software updates and that Maryland remains a hotspot for vehicle theft. WTOP

- ➤ Montgomery College announced its 2025-2026 Guest Artist Series to be held at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center (featuring live music, talks and performances from Marlee Matlin, Hank Azaria, Christine Baranski and the duo Sons of Mystro). ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Pepco launched a one-time Customer Relief Fund today to help eligible limited- and moderate-income customers in Maryland and Washington, DC pay up to $300 on their energy bills—administered by The Salvation Army with funding from Exelon. Approved grants will be credited to customers' Pepco accounts as part of the effort to manage rising energy costs. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools updated its background screening process after an Inspector General report and strengthened measures to quickly clear new hires and reverify staff credentials on August 7. Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor assured families that all current employees passed checks (the plan adds continuous monitoring and on-site services) to keep students safe. The MoCo Show
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin said there is less than a 2% chance that backup water from local reservoirs will be needed this fall—favorable rainfall in May through July and nearly full reservoirs have boosted the supply while contingency plans remain ready if conditions change. - ➤ Montgomery County-based Adventist HealthCare hospitals Shady Grove Medical Center and White Oak Medical Center were recognized by the American Heart Association for using evidence-based guidelines to treat stroke and heart attack patients+ they earned awards such as the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Award and Bronze distinctions for coronary artery disease that honor their commitment to fast, research-based care.
