Montgomery Village’s Stedwick Pool will reopen on Monday, Aug.
17 at 12 p.m. after over a year of $4.8 million renovations that added eight 25-meter lap lanes, a diving well and improved accessibility to extend the summer swim season.
Montgomery County’s annual Friendship Picnic will take place Sunday, Aug.
23, from noon to 5 p.m. at Wheaton Regional Park — 2000 Shorefield Road — where residents can enjoy free food including American, Kosher, Halal, and vegetarian meals, live music, rides, and cultural activities with available parking and shuttle service.

Sheetz will hold grand opening at new Gaithersburg store (16529 South Frederick Avenue) on Thursday, Aug.
20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Walnut Hill Shopping Center; the event will feature giveaways, a ribbon-cutting, and a $2,500 Z-Card drawing, and customers donating non-perishable food receive a branded bag.
Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins will open Monday, Aug.

Taste of Rio returns in Gaithersburg this September with a 10-day dining celebration from Sept.
18 to 27. (Rio Taste Week runs Sept. 18-26 and the lakefront finale is on Sept. 27 from 2-6 p.m.) Participating restaurants offer chef-crafted menus, cocktails, live music and tasting bites.
The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck continues its U.S. tour with a stop at Bethesda Row on Saturday, Aug.

Montgomery College launched new family-friendly study spaces across its four campuses on Aug.
7 to help parenting students balance education and family needs; the spaces offer interactive technology, colorful furnishings, children’s books, and activity stations funded by donor support.
🌲 Environment
DC Water is halting daily testing on the Potomac River as bacteria levels returned to normal after the January sewer collapse that spilled 243.5 million gallons — testing at six Maryland locations will switch to twice a week from Aug.
7 through Sept. 10 while repairs continue.
🏛️ Government
The Maryland Department of Human Services has launched a tool that lets SNAP customers find job training and work help by location & type.
The state partnered with 46 providers and is investing up to $30 million to offer free programs and support services.
🏥 Health
Maryland Department of Health expanded its vaccine program by adding 10 Federally Qualified Health Centers to offer free vaccines for uninsured adults ages 19 and older.
The program, launched last year and funded with (2.8 million dollars), now covers vaccines for influenza, measles, pneumonia, RSV, and shingles.
