COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Doniele Ayres, president of the Montgomery Village Foundation, said Montgomery Village is not part of Gaithersburg—though the nearby city is often used as a reference—and that the community is managed by its own foundation and homeowner associations. She explained that this unique governance system gives residents a direct voice in local rules.  The MoCo Show

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Donutchew closed its Montgomery Mall location in Bethesda after debuting as a pop-up in November 2023, then moving to a kiosk and later a dessert space next to Macy’s—while the shop continues serving customers at its Gaithersburg Rio Lakefront location opened in 2022.  The MoCo Show
  • The Flavor Hive food truck will be at Seneca Valley High School Tuesday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Germantown offering its popular walking taco chips bag, while co-founder Shihan Chowdhury, a Seneca Valley graduate, continues to expand the business with additional locations planned.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair crowned its culinary champions at this year’s Fair Foodie Awards—Deli-ish won best overall for its Reuben sandwich, New Orleans Snow Balls DMV was named best dessert, and Pacha Mama Juice Co. earned best drink. The event honored both a newcomer and returning favorites while also giving Pacha Mama a second prize for its açaí bowl.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County Public Schools will open its new academic year as teachers hold pre-service week from August 18 to 22 and selected students (new to MCPS) attend Student Transition Day on August 25 before all students return on August 26.  The MoCo Show
