EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County Council Parent-Teacher Associations called the Inspector General’s report shocking after it showed more than 12,000 MCPS employees and 4,900 others with student access did not receive required background checks — raising concerns about school safety. The PTAs urged district leaders and state officials to review and fix these oversight gaps quickly.  Montgomery Community Media
  • D.C.-area schools must offer alternative reading options for classroom lessons when students return this fall after a Supreme Court ruling that allows parents to opt out if they have religious objections to certain books. School systems say teachers will work with families to choose age-appropriate materials — a change designed to meet both parental concerns and educational standards — as new school terms begin.  WTOP

HEALTH NEWS
