- ➤ Gaithersburg will host the 87th Annual Labor Day Parade on September 1 at 10 a.m. with the Gaithersburg–Washington Grove Fire Department and city officials leading the event—Alex Tsironis will emcee while John Bauer serves as grand marshal and Distinguished Resident. The parade route along East Diamond and Russell Avenues will include marching bands, antique cars, and community groups, followed by a block party with free parking and shuttle service available. - ➤ Montgomery County Police arrested 35-year-old Joseph Gordon on Wednesday, August 20 for charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and handgun offenses after he shot a 40-year-old man on July 28 at 11400 Lockwood Drive in White Oak—he is held without bond. The MoCo Show

- ➤ MCPS has shared a guide to help families understand school communication platforms. The guide explains switching from Remind (to be replaced by ParentSquare by January 2026) and the use of ParentVUE (the main parent portal) for viewing student information. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools installed vape detection systems in all high school student bathrooms to catch vape emissions—like those from nicotine and THC—and help staff react fast.
