- ➤ Tropical Smoothie Cafe will open today at North Pointe at Flower Hill shopping center, located at 18251 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg+ serving fresh smoothies, flatbreads, wraps, quesadillas, sandwiches, and bowls. The new 16,000 SF center will also host other brands+ including PJ’s Coffee, Oak Barrel & Vine, Inspire Nail Bar, and Plaza Mexico’s rooftop restaurant and bar. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Angelo's Pizza Pasta and Deli is opening its second location today at North Pointe at Flower Hill — a new 16,000-square-foot retail and restaurant center located at 18251 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg — and the family-friendly eatery will serve pizzas, pastas, wings, subs and specialty pies made with fresh ingredients. - ➤ Montgomery County’s Department of Alcohol Beverage Services will launch its upgraded Oak Barrel & Vine at North Pointe at Flower Hill at 18251 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said that 21-year-old Raphael Mayorga from Frederick was sentenced to 22 years and 60 days for causing a crash on I-270 on October 18 that left Sgt. Pat Kepp without both legs — his statement thanked state lawmakers for passing tougher penalties for reckless driving. The MoCo Show

- ➤ A new children’s museum—Play Street Museum—opened on August 13 at the Kentlands shopping center in Gaithersburg, offering interactive areas for kids ages 1 to 8 that include pretend centers such as a doctor’s office and grocery store. The museum hosts five daily sessions starting at 8:30 a.m., charges $17 per child, and focuses on safe, clean play. Montgomery Community Media
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools have planned several days with no school and early dismissal, including Labor Day on September 1, no school on September 23 with early dismissal on September 26, and additional no school days on October 2 and October 20 with a teacher work day on October 17. - ➤ WSSC Water took part in a pipe tapping competition at the Chesapeake Tri-Association Conference in Ocean City—its Big Blue Tappers team won the fastest time and will compete internationally in Washington D.C. in June 2026 while the Little Blue Tappers team advanced automatically. - ➤ Gaithersburg and Kensington will hold Labor Day parades on September 1—Gaithersburg Police and Montgomery County Police set road closures and shuttle times for East Diamond Avenue and Russell Avenue, while Kensington will have parade route and festival area closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Beginning on or about September 22, Sligo Creek Parkway south of Wayne Avenue will close for about two months as Purple Line crews begin track installation—pedestrian access will remain open. Parkway users are advised to follow on-site signage and use Piney Branch Road for alternate access—official project details are available from local authorities. The MoCo Show
