CRIME NEWS

  • Maryland State Police (MSP) warned residents about a scam where scammers pretend to be police using fake caller ID to ask for money or private data and advised citizens to hang up and verify any suspicious calls with local police. Officers said they never call to request such details.  The MoCo Show
  • On Sunday morning, Montgomery County police investigated a fatal shooting and a double stabbing—emergency crews responded at 2:38 a.m. to a shooting on Amaranth Drive where they found two stabbing victims in stable condition and then received a report of a shooting on Centerway Road that is being treated as homicide with no arrests made.  FOX 5
  • Police responded on August 31, 2025, to reports of multiple juveniles firing BB guns on the 19500 block of Amaranth Drive in Montgomery County and a confrontation that left one man stabbed in the back and another slashed in the arm before authorities detained fifteen people without making any arrests.  FOX 5
  • Montgomery County Police responded to a barricaded incident involving an adult woman at a home in Dickerson Sunday night—police said there is no threat to the community and more details will be provided.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Maryland Apple Harvest Cider Festival will be held on September 6th at Two Story Chimney on Damascus Road—where families will enjoy Maryland craft ciders, food vendors, live music, and artisan goods in a rain-or-shine event hosted by The Cider Association of Maryland and Two Story Chimney Ciderworks.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing on September 16 at 1:30 p.m. to hear comments on Spending Affordability Guidelines for the FY27 capital budget and FY27-32 Capital Improvements Program—speakers must sign up by September 15 at 2 p.m.  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • School is in session and local high school football teams will start playing next Friday as the preview outlines matchups across the county — including a tough game for Gaithersburg as it faces a strong Walter Johnson team without its former star. The preview predicts a lopsided result with Gaithersburg expected to lose 38 to 0 in what promises to be a challenging test.  The MoCo Show
