CRIME NEWS

  • Tristan Courtland Turner left his Montgomery Village home on August 20, 2005, to travel to Baltimore—he never returned and his disappearance remains unsolved as Montgomery County Police continue to seek leads.  The MoCo Show
  • Montgomery County Police identified a man in all-black clothing who took photos at St. Patrick’s Church in Olney on Sept. 1 and found no evidence he posed a threat—he cooperated with the investigation.  The MoCo Show
  • U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a $150,000 reward for information to arrest a suspect who robbed a letter carrier on August 12 at 12:03 p.m. near 14214 Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring—suspect described as a Black male aged 18—25 in a long—sleeve shirt with locs who fled in a 2009—2011 silver Toyota Corolla missing its driver—side rear hubcap.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • On October 4, the Germantown October Fest will be held along Century Boulevard and the BlackRock Center for the Arts lawn with live music from Nine Days, a parade with local groups, a beer garden, food trucks, and a free children’s carnival. The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce organizes the free event—supported by Montgomery County and BlackRock—to celebrate Germantown’s traditions and cultural diversity.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County Department of Transportation announced a detour on Ride On Route 56 at Edison Park Drive and Main Street in Gaithersburg due to construction—riders should use stops before and after the bypassed locations; the change will last through late September.  The MoCo Show
  • MCDOT installed over 200 'No Turn on Red' signs across Montgomery County as part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023 to boost pedestrian and cyclist safety. The signs were placed in high-density areas (including Bethesda, Friendship Heights, Silver Spring, Wheaton, Germantown, Glenmont, Twinbrook, and White Flint) and drivers face a $90 fine for making right turns on red where they are posted.  The MoCo Show
  • The Maryland Department of Transportation announced $50.8 million in funding for pedestrian, bicycle and roadway improvements along Georgia Avenue in Montgomery Hills. Final design work is underway and construction will begin in spring 2028 to boost safety and connectivity for all users.  The MoCo Show

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sal Riley, a longtime MCPS security coordinator who was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2024 and is now cancer-free, shared his personal journey and the need for more men to check their health. He and his wife started the grassroots campaign Cancer Doesn’t Care—Be Aware to raise awareness about a disease rarely considered in men.  The MoCo Show
