EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools introduced a new emergency response protocol for the 2025–2026 school year featuring five steps—Evacuate, Shelter, Lockdown, Hold, and Secure—amid parent frustration over unclear instructions and a lack of metal detectors. The district will update parents every 20 minutes during lockdowns and hold safety drills at all schools by the end of October. FOX 5

- ➤ Montgomery County has issued an RFP for an experienced operator to manage its four Innovation Centers (Germantown, Rockville, North Bethesda, and Silver Spring) and boost tech startup resources countywide. Proposals are due Sept. 22 with a pre-submission meeting on Sept. 11. The MoCo Show
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Health Officer Dr. Kisha Davis said the CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older get a flu shot to protect both individuals and the community during the flu season that runs from October to mid-May. She stressed the vaccine is especially important for older adults, the immunocompromised, and infants too young to be vaccinated—helping to reduce the spread of illness. WTOP
- ➤ The FDA ended the emergency use rules for COVID vaccines so that only adults 65 and older and those with underlying conditions could get them without a doctor's note — local pharmacies in Gaithersburg now offer the new doses.
