BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pinstripes Bethesda in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose will keep serving guests as its parent company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this week—other locations have been closed while eight continue to operate.  The MoCo Show
  • Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican restaurant and bar at 640 Center Point Way in Kentlands, closed permanently after opening in August 2020—its location next to a former Mod Pizza space will become an Andy’s Pizza.  The MoCo Show

CRIME NEWS

  • Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police are asking for help finding Kevin Michael Ware, a 56-year-old missing person last seen August 31 on the 8000 block of Whispering Oaks Way in Gaithersburg—anyone with information should call the non-emergency line.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • Montgomery County’s Rei Ami became a world-famous singer and rapper with her voice role in Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters. She grew up locally and voiced Zoey — a member of a cartoon group whose song topped Billboard for three weeks.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gaithersburg City Manager Tanisha Briley announced that Karen Turner—an experienced public-sector leader with over 22 years in human resources—will become assistant city manager on September 29th. She will support city operations and coordinate special projects as part of the executive leadership team.  The MoCo Show
  • Today, the Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) released its annual Troubled Properties report showing a 69% drop in troubled apartment units from 7,269 to 2,264 and a 57% drop in at-risk units from 6,375 to 2,740; stronger enforcement, rent stabilization and better landlord compliance helped drive these results.  The MoCo Show
  • Montgomery County’s Planning Board presented a plan Tuesday morning for a 3.5-mile stretch of University Boulevard that calls for zoning changes and safety improvements by reducing driveways and updating transit-focused development—residents may share their input at public hearings Wednesday at Montgomery Blair High School and Tuesday, Sept 16, at the County Council building.  WTOP
