ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a collision at 4 a.m. Wednesday on I-495 near the American Legion Bridge that involved a heavy wrecker towing a tractor-trailer and three vehicles—three people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries while HazMat crews managed a fuel spill and delays before the I-270 interchange persisted. - ➤ RisuCon, the comic and cosplay festival, will take place on Saturday, October 4 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds at 16 Chestnut Street in Gaithersburg from 10am to 8pm. The event will feature over 125 artists and vendors, a Cosplay Barn, a cosplay contest, an activity room, a game room with tournaments, anime screenings, panels and group photos by major local cosplay groups—supporting local creativity and community. - ➤ County leaders gathered at the Silver Spring Civic Center during Tuesday evening’s African Heritage celebration to support residents from the African diaspora amid federal immigration crackdowns — officials reassured the community and emphasized the area's rich cultural traditions. - ➤ Maryland's sports wagering market generated $9,039,368 in state contributions in August as bettors wagered $434.2 million and operators held 12.1% of wagers — contributions that support public education funding. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Governor Wes Moore announced yesterday that James J. Dietrich will join the Montgomery County Circuit Court and Kristina L. Watkowski will join the Worcester County Circuit Court. - ➤ Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and partners will host 12 Community Conversations through November to gather input on the FY27 operating budget — the next UpCounty session is set for Monday, Sept. 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. The MoCo Show
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Maryland Department of Natural Resources confirmed that Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease is causing white-tailed deer deaths in several counties including Howard, Montgomery, Baltimore, Anne Arundel, and Prince George’s—hunters and citizens are advised to report sightings of sick or dead deer to local DNR offices, and the outbreak is expected to continue through October. - ➤ MCPS high school football Week 1 ended with Quince Orchard leading after quarterback Will Drakeford threw for 201 yards and three scores in a win over Paint Branch—Sherwood and Blake also showed strong plays as rankings set the stage for tougher games next week. The MoCo Show
- ➤ On Tuesday, MCPS varsity volleyball teams won matches with Sherwood beating Good Counsel 3 to 0, Quince Orchard edging Northwest 3 to 2, BCC defeating Seneca Valley 3 to 1, Churchill winning 3 to 0 over Springbrook, Wheaton topping Watkins Mill 3 to 2, and Rockville beating Gaithersburg 3 to 1.
