COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Readers note that parking lots at many Montgomery County shopping centers are causing frustration for drivers. Gaithersburg Costco has drawn strong complaints due to ongoing construction and heavy traffic at the lot.  The MoCo Show

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Human BioSciences Inc. — a Gaithersburg company that makes wound-care products — will close its headquarters at 940 Clopper Road later this year and move operations to West Virginia on November 5. About 30 employees will get new jobs, and the firm is looking for another office in Gaithersburg.  The MoCo Show
  • Montgomery County will soon see three new Dunkin’ locations in Derwood, along Norbeck Road in Rockville, and in the Rockshire Village redevelopment across from Wootton High School. In Derwood, a former child-care facility is being converted into a 2,500-square-foot restaurant (with a drive-thru, pedestrian improvements, and a new left-turn lane) while the Rockville store replaces a closed dry-cleaning business and the Rockshire Village project is expected to complete in 2027.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Officials announced last week that over 100 MCPS students were named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program—one of more than 16,000 semifinalists competing for nearly $26 million in scholarships. The students must meet further requirements next spring to advance to Finalist status.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County was awarded more than $2.1 million in MEA grants in the first half of 2025 to fund clean energy, energy efficiency, and EV charging projects—such as solar canopies at transfer stations and LED upgrades in parking areas. The initiatives are expected to save $214,000 per year, reduce nearly 1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, and cut greenhouse gas emissions by over 500 tons.  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • In the opening week of Montgomery County volleyball, teams such as Quince Orchard, Sherwood and Wheaton remained unbeaten while Gaithersburg ended with one win and one loss. Week 2 will feature marquee matchups including a home game for Magruder and a Friday contest at Gaithersburg—games that could affect season standings.  The MoCo Show
  • Churchill football beat Northwest 28—21 on Friday night in Germantown—senior quarterback Hunter Humphries threw a 25-yard touchdown pass with 37 seconds left to secure the win. The Bulldogs, now 2-0, will play Walter Johnson next week in Bethesda while Northwest gets ready to face BCC.  The MoCo Show
  • High school football week 3 preview covers key matchups in Montgomery County as teams like Gaithersburg and Seneca Valley prepare for Friday night contests with local experts predicting actionable outcomes.
