  • Families will enjoy Children's Day at Brookside Gardens on Sunday, September 21 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) as Montgomery Parks and Friends of Brookside Gardens host hands-on gardening and nature activities for children at 1800 Glenallan Avenue (Wheaton).  The MoCo Show

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer caused major delays on I-495 near the American Legion Bridge Monday morning, with two blocked right lanes + a fuel spill worsening traffic for those heading toward Montgomery County and Northern Virginia.  FOX 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sunday, September 28 from 2pm-6pm, the Taste of Rio will bring signature bites, craft cocktails and live music to Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg. Organizers describe the festival as a Sample, Sip and Savor experience — featuring local restaurants such as Charley Prime Foods and a live performance by Priceless Advice with tickets available for general admittance and VIP access.  The MoCo Show
  • Hispanic Heritage Month begins in Montgomery County with several events planned to honor Latinx culture. Gaithersburg residents can attend Family Loteria Night at Casey Community Center on September 19 — one of many activities including free festivals, film showings, and dance lessons held across the county.  Montgomery Community Media

  • WalletHub released its report yesterday showing Maryland is ranked the 6th best state for teachers even as educators earn $3,728 less per year than they did 16 years ago when adjusted for inflation—WalletHub measured 24 key factors like income growth, pupil-teacher ratio, and public-school spending.  The MoCo Show

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fall webworms are caterpillars that build large, strong webs on area trees in late August and September. Arborist Lou Meyer from the Davey Tree Expert Company said the tough webs are harmless but can be pruned if needed (using a pole pruner).  WTOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilmember Gabe Albornoz announced Monday on Facebook that he will not run for re-election in 2026 after serving two terms—this decision leaves three of the four at-large seats open as Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles prepares for her campaign.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County Councilmember Gabe Albornoz announced on September 15 that he will not run for a third term—expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him—after serving two terms.  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • Quince Orchard and Stone Bridge will meet today at the Cougar Dome in a game expected to be decided by key plays on defense and special teams—Quince Orchard holds past wins while Stone Bridge shows a deep, balanced lineup. The Cougars must rely on QB Will Drakeford to make smart plays and keep turnovers down against a secondary with strong Division I talent.  The MoCo Show
