CULTURE NEWS

  • Germantown’s Oktoberfest will return with a parade, carnival, spooky dance contest and live music — local breweries including Waredaca and Lone Oak will serve beer for adults as the event celebrates the community’s international flavor.  WTOP
  • Cynthia Adarkwa, a writer-producer on HBO Max’s The Pitt, won an Emmy last night when the show earned the Outstanding Drama Series award in Los Angeles—she is a Montgomery Blair High School alum with years of TV writing experience.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MCPS Superintendent Thomas Taylor reaffirmed that schools remain safe and welcoming after recent federal immigration enforcement near a middle school. The district will follow strict protocols—such as verifying visitor credentials and contacting affected families—to protect student safety and privacy.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Council voted today to require labor peace agreements on future hotel projects where the County has a financial stake—measures designed to prevent labor strikes and secure steady relations for upcoming developments.  The MoCo Show
  • Montgomery County Council approved new legislation that raises the childcare property tax credit from $3,000 to $10,000—making large family childcare facilities eligible for the credit for the first time. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In Montgomery County, the median home sale price in August was $619,000, marking a 2.5% drop from August last year and a 6.2% decrease from July. The market saw 806 new listings (down 11.8% from July) and homes took an average of 29 days on the market (a 7% increase), giving buyers a slight edge.  Montgomery Community Media
  • New GCAAR data shows that in Montgomery County and Washington, D.C., homes took 23 days to sell in August with 1,392 closed sales and a median sold price of $629,000, giving buyers a slight edge. Active listings rose to 4,336 and new contract activity fell by over 11% as the market slowed.  The MoCo Show
