BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buffalo Wild Wings GO is opening its second Montgomery County location in Kensington on Tuesday, September 24th at 11 a.m.—the first 100 guests in line will get free wings for a year following last month’s launch in Gaithersburg.  The MoCo Show
  • Taco Bar El Güero, a long-running family restaurant, will move to Downtown Crown this fall and rebrand as El Güero Mexicano while keeping its menu intact—its liquor license hearing is set for October 2.  The MoCo Show
  • Maximum Magic Shop—Maryland’s only brick-and-mortar magic shop—is relocating from Potomac to Rockville and will have its re-grand opening on October 4 at 12345 Parklawn Dr.—offering a free deck of cards to the first 25 visitors.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County has 25 public high schools and will soon add Crown High School in Gaithersburg and Woodward High School in North Bethesda. The three oldest schools are Richard Montgomery High School (1892), Gaithersburg High School (1904), and Sherwood High School (1906), with each school modernized while keeping its historic roots.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County Executive Marc Elrich said he noticed fewer Hispanic residents at the Friendship Picnic due to fear over ICE actions and new immigration policies making them feel unsafe. He warned that rising federal funding for immigration enforcement—expected to increase by nearly 45% on Oct. 1—could further harm the county’s diverse community.  The MoCo Show
  • A Metro watchdog group reported a rise in improper door events on Metrorail trains, with 27 incidents recorded by Sept. 1st—including stations such as Pentagon, Rockville, Bethesda, and Franconia-Springfield—12 more than in 2024. Metro said it is launching an Automatic Door Operation system and conducting refresher training for staff to address the issue.  WTOP
  • The Montgomery County Council will hold public hearings on Sept. 30, Oct. 7 and Oct. 21 to let residents comment on a $11.6M transportation improvement project in Gaithersburg, spending limits for the WSSC Water budget, bond authorization and a change to a historic preservation plan for Timberlawn—residents must sign up by Sept. 29, Oct. 6 and Oct. 20 respectively.  The MoCo Show
  • Maryland Department of Transportation unveiled a new roadside marker honoring Harriet Tubman along Greenbrier Road in Bucktown. The updated marker—developed with Tubman's relatives to fix past errors—replaces an old sign and was revealed during International Underground Railroad Month with local leaders in attendance.  The MoCo Show

  • On Wednesday night, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons beat the Churchill Bulldogs three to one in a four-set match—Molly McWhorter and teammates led key plays as Churchill struggled with early errors.  The MoCo Show
