- ➤ On Sunday, October 5, the Gaithersburg—Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department will host its Fall OpenHouse at Fire Station 708 on Montgomery Village and Russell Avenues from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Attendees can meet firefighters and EMTs, learn fire safety skills, and enjoy snacks, music, a moon bounce, and a visit with Sparky the Fire Safety Dog. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Andrew Kraus, 39, the son of Mission BBQ co-founder Bill Kraus, and three other soldiers died in a helicopter crash during a training mission in Washington State today—Governor Wes Moore offered condolences. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Sixty Vines will open its first Maryland location on Monday, October 13 at 212 Ellington Boulevard in Downtown Crown. The Texas-based restaurant will serve over 60 wines on tap and vineyard-inspired cuisine—marking a new addition to Gaithersburg's growing dining scene. The MoCo Show
- ➤ SERVPRO Team Gutierrez, a family-run restoration company based in Rockville that serves Montgomery and Prince George counties, was named SERVPRO Franchise of the Year among over 2300 franchises and celebrated its 45th anniversary—an honor that shows its strong customer service and community leadership since its founding in 1980 by Eric Thompson. - ➤ Four Montgomery County students have launched Klinn—an EdTech startup that helps students send cold emails to secure internships. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County has signed a contract with Vitronic to install 140 new speed cameras and 76 red-light cameras starting in October at locations chosen with traffic data—aiming to cut crashes and save lives as part of its Vision Zero effort. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Maryland lawmakers have started giving a $40 rebate on electricity bills from a $200 million energy savings fund—some customers have already seen the credit while a second payout will come in early 2026. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Katie Ryder of Kaiser Permanente warned that rising whooping cough cases put infants at risk of severe coughing and breathing problems—she said vaccinating mothers in the third trimester and caregivers helps create a protective bubble for the little ones.
