  • Montgomery Community Media announced that Eric Myers, Senior Vice President and Business Banking Team Leader at M&T Bank, has been named Board Secretary.   • Chef Lee's Element at 520 Quince Orchard Road reopened after weeks of renovations with a new chef and management team—now offering dim sum, dumplings and classic Szechuan dishes with bold, spicy flavors. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Romanian Food Festival will take place in Potomac from October 3-5 at Moldovita Church on 9111 River Rd.—the event will offer free entry, authentic cuisine, live music, crafts and insights into Romanian Orthodox spirituality while voluntary donations support parking and stormwater improvements.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Economic experts warned that a potential federal shutdown will worsen the local economy by cutting 18,000 federal jobs and leaving contractors without guaranteed back pay. Congress remains gridlocked and experts say the shutdown could prompt mass firings (adding extra financial strain for nonprofits and local workers).  WTOP
  • Today, the Montgomery County Council will introduce Expedited Bill 30-25, sponsored by Evan Glass, Kate Stewart, Marilyn Balcombe and Gabe Albornoz, to ease enforcement of the gas-powered leaf blower ban by removing the need for photos in complaints—allowing violators to face a $500 fine on handheld, backpack and walk-behind devices banned since July 1. A public hearing is set for October 21 after concerns were raised at a July 24 committee meeting.  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • MoCo volleyball Week 3 ended with Sherwood finishing 7-0 and four teams tied at 6-1 as other teams fought for wins. Monday's games ended, today's matchups feature Wootton at Quince Orchard and Gaithersburg at Paint Branch, and Friday's games will be played to shape the playoff race—each match could change the standings—.  The MoCo Show
  • Sherwood beat Blake 21 to 12 in Sandy Spring on Friday night. The win gave Sherwood a record of four wins and no losses (their first perfect start since 2021) and set them up as serious contenders while Blake will try to bounce back next week.  The MoCo Show
  • Montgomery County high school football preview shows key matchups this week as Gaithersburg Jaguars face Northwest—predicted to lose 12 to 41—while teams like Quince Orchard and Churchill gear up for tough contests. The predictions outline how local schools will battle for playoff positioning in a season of intense challenges.  The MoCo Show
