COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Our Neighborhood Deli at 240 Main Street is at risk of closing one year after opening—local residents and business owners have started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise $19,500 for overdue rent, renovations, and operating costs while keeping the community hub alive.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • Montgomery Parks is reopening the annual Garden of Lights display at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton on November 21 at 5 p.m. Tickets will be sold online starting October 13 at 10 a.m.—the event runs nightly until January 4 from 5 to 9 p.m.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marriott International and the Foundation for Hospitality and Restaurant Management partnered to give eight MCPS educators hands-on culinary training at Marriott’s International Corporate Test Kitchen—led by Chef Stephen Toevs who demonstrated new industry trends for culinary education.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Council will hold its annual Youth Town Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Council Office Building (100 Maryland Ave, Rockville) for students to share their ideas and questions. Council President Kate Stewart said the event will include a pizza reception starting at 6:15 p.m. and options to join via Zoom or live stream.  The MoCo Show
  • MCDOT’s annual bike donation drive held in Rockville on Oct. 3 collected a record 334 bicycles—exceeding 306 in 2024 and 297 in 2023—and volunteers refurbished the bikes for residents in need, recycling those that could not be repaired.  The MoCo Show
  • Today, the Montgomery County Council holds two meetings—one where the Economic Development Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. for a retail market briefing and another where the Education and Culture Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. to review a $7.25 million categorical transfer for MCPS and a proposed regional programming model.  The MoCo Show

  • A government shutdown will likely slow Montgomery County real estate contracts and closings as federal workers face delays with income verification—past shutdowns have shown that once government operations resume, market demand quickly rebounds—helping the market stay resilient.  The MoCo Show

  • Montgomery County high school football saw Quince Orchard win 34-13 on the road and extend an 18-game streak, + Sherwood shut out Clarksburg 41-0 as teams gear up for tougher contests; Churchill, Paint Branch, Blake, Northwest, and Damascus also secured wins and now prepare for key matchups next week.
