ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Montgomery County Public Schools middle schooler was struck in the head by a metal object thrown during gym class last Wednesday—his mother said he suffered an open skull injury with brain damage and remains in the pediatric intensive care unit on a breathing tube. WTOP
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Mattress Firm will join Tatte Bakery & Café in the former Buca Di Beppo space along Kentlands Boulevard—each will occupy about 3,777 square feet after the restaurant was vacated in June; opening dates for the new locations are not yet known. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Moby Dick is offering free lunch sandwiches to federal employees every weekday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Montgomery County locations including Gaithersburg — federal workers must show their ID — and receive a free sandwich of their choice. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Meow Claw is opening a new café at 1701 Rockville Pike, Suite B9 in The Shops at Congressional Village in November that will serve bubble waffles, snow ice, smoothies, milk tea, and milkshakes — it will also have a photo booth and karaoke area near its original location known for fun desserts and claw machine games. - ➤ On October 27, the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services’ Child Care Support Services honored ten early childhood educators at the Montgomery County Child Care Fall Conference held at the Silver Spring Civic Building—selected from over 250 nominations in six award categories. They were recognized for their work in providing quality care and education for children birth to age five. The MoCo Show
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County will join the national Operation Green Light initiative from Nov. 4 to Nov. 11 to honor veterans by lighting public spaces green and hosting community events, including a Gaithersburg ceremony at City Hall Concert Pavilion. A Ride On bus tribute will be unveiled on Nov. 10 — county leaders urge residents and businesses to participate. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Federal workers have missed paychecks during the ongoing government shutdown and have turned to local food banks in Gaithersburg—where the Capital Area Food Bank offers shelf-stable items to those with a valid work ID—and to programs offering low- or no-interest loans. Prince George’s County Council will review the Federal Worker Emergency Assistance Act today—aimed at prioritizing local hiring and expanding food support—after the shutdown ends. FOX 5

- ➤ On Thursday night, the Sherwood Warriors beat the Damascus Hornets 28-7, improving their record to 7-1—after Damascus gave an early 7-0 lead. Quarterback Matt Larsen connected twice with Adrian Hamilton while AJ Lopez scored key touchdowns to secure the win. The MoCo Show
- ➤ The undefeated Quince Orchard Cougars defeated Northwest 35 to 16 under Friday night lights in Gaithersburg, with running back Jaheim Bond scoring early and Damien Hurtado adding key touchdowns—Cougars improved to 8-0 and will host Gaithersburg next week—Northwest travels to Blair on October 31.
