A Montgomery County food bank is preparing for a government shutdown that may end SNAP benefits today—donations have dropped from over one million to about half a million pounds, and the bank has added extra service days for federal workers to help more families in need.

Kitchen Social signed on to take over the former Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar at 203 Crown Park Avenue in Downtown Crown, with Paladar having closed in May.

The Ohio-based group, opening its first Maryland restaurant, will begin construction in coming months though an opening date has not yet been announced.

Montgomery County Public Libraries will host its first Local Author Showcase on Nov.

O.A.R. has announced its Three Decades Tour to celebrate 30 years as a band with a homecoming show scheduled for July 24, 2026—set to take place at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia.

The band formed in Rockville when its members met at Wootton High School and later built a loyal following at local venues.

Montgomery College has been named one of 200 community colleges eligible to compete for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, which honors strong student outcomes like retention, completion, transfer & bachelor's attainment.

The college will now join a multi-year review process with a winner to be announced in spring 2027.

Former Wizards players John Wall and Brendan Haywood join Monumental Sports Network’s Wizards broadcast team for the 2025–26 NBA season—Wall will serve as a studio analyst and Haywood as a color commentator for select games.

Haywood will make his booth debut today as the Wizards face Orlando Magic, while Wall will join on November 8—when Washington hosts the Dallas Mavericks.
