BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jump n’ Play is now open at 811 Russell Avenue, Suite G in Gaithersburg—featuring slides, ball pits, and soft-play equipment for young children—and offers birthday parties, playdates, and daily operating hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The MoCo Show
  • Hundreds of people lined up outside Z&Z Manoushe Bakery in Rockville for a viral steak and cheese pop-up that served a house-made sesame seed hoagie roll filled with ribeye steak, caramelized onions, and a choice of American or provolone cheese, mayo, and red hots (honoring the Dubbaneh family's legacy in Montgomery County restaurants). Z&Z will announce future pop-ups on social media as the limited-time event continues to draw local food lovers.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Takoma Park Middle School teacher Joseph Evans won Jeopardy! on Tuesday, November 4 by finishing with $15,529 after competitors missed the final clue—he prepared through trivia and local bar contests over his long MCPS career.  The MoCo Show
  • Montgomery County Public Schools released their Maryland School Report Card results showing 95.5% of schools earned three stars or higher—26 schools gained one star and 53.5% achieved four or five stars, which exceeds state averages and supports the district's plan to push for higher ratings in the future.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local leaders including Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins and Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles have announced a donation drive to support relief efforts for Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage. Donations will be accepted through November 17 at two drop-off locations (the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza and the Montgomery College Germantown Bioscience Education Center) with essential items like water, food, hygiene products, baby supplies, first aid, blankets, towels and cleaning supplies needed.  The MoCo Show
  • Governor Wes Moore released $62 million from state funds to provide full November SNAP benefits for Maryland families amid a federal shutdown—this funding supplements a $10 million emergency allocation for food security partners. The state acted by executive order after a federal judge ruled that the federal government must supply contingency funds—ensuring no family goes hungry.  The MoCo Show

  • Plans for a high-end Eddie V’s Prime Seafood restaurant at 151 Lakelands Drive in Gaithersburg have been canceled as the chain has withdrawn its proposal. The property by Lake Varuna is now available for lease & Lakelands LLC seeks a new restaurant tenant.  The MoCo Show
