COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In Gaithersburg, Saints Row Brewing will team up with La Casita Pupuseria on November 10 to offer free warm meals for anyone at 15 Fulks Corner Avenue from 5pm to 8pm. The event will serve freshly prepared pupusas and sides with donations helping to restock the local community pantry (while supplies last).  The MoCo Show
  • Lakeforest Mall, which closed on March 31 after nearly 45 years in Gaithersburg, is auctioning its outdoor signs through Capital Online Auctions — local pickup is required.  The MoCo Show

BUSINESS NEWS

  • California Fish Grill will open its first Montgomery County restaurant at 12238 Rockville Pike in Rockville with a Friends and Family preview event from November 7 through November 9 — guests can reserve a time slot for a complimentary meal. The fast-casual seafood restaurant, known for its sustainably sourced seafood, will officially open on November 10.  The MoCo Show
  • Sheetz will offer a free half turkey sub, a regular fountain drink and a free $9 car wash to veterans and active-duty military on Tuesday, November 11 when they show valid ID at its 800+ locations. The Gaithersburg store at 751 Progress Way will serve the meal only—customers are encouraged to donate loyalty points via the Sheetz app to support the USO.  The MoCo Show

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Gaithersburg, Kentlands Mansion and the Arts Barn are hosting the Baltimore Watercolor Society’s annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Exhibition until January 11th — the show features 98 juried paintings and will include an awards ceremony on November 9th from 1:30-3:30 p.m.  The MoCo Show
  • The beloved Festival of Lights will return to Washington D.C. Temple at 9900 Stoneybrook Drive in Kensington with over 500,000 lights illuminating the grounds nightly from 4:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. between December 4 and 24—holiday performances will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Visitors’ Center auditorium.  The MoCo Show

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection is hosting a free paper shredding and recycling event at Montgomery College Rockville on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—residents may drop off up to five small boxes or paper bags of personal documents for secure on-site destruction—and the shredded material will be recycled to support the county’s zero waste goals.  The MoCo Show
  • Foliage across the DMV is peaking this week as trees show bright red, yellow and orange leaves. Locals can visit spots like Rock Creek Park or Great Falls Park to enjoy these colors before November’s chill fades them away.  FOX 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Gaithersburg will hold its annual Veterans Day Observance on November 11 at 11 a.m. at the City Hall Concert Pavilion—featuring music, speeches, and a wreath-laying by officials and local veterans groups, with a public reception following. Chief Master Sgt. Sharese N. Junious will serve as the guest speaker while local organizations provide support for veterans and their families.  The MoCo Show
  • Montgomery County officials will meet today at 9:30 a.m. to review a report on how 911, 311, the County Crisis Center, and 988 services respond during mental health calls; the joint Health and Human Services (HHS) and Public Safety (PS) Committee will hear a summary and discuss the findings.  The MoCo Show
  • Montgomery County Public Schools Board approved a lease for a new warehouse at 750 Progress Way in Gaithersburg—its effective date was Nov. 1. The 10-year lease, which starts on July 1, costs about $29.5 million and will see interior construction begin soon with partial move-in planned for Sept. and Oct. 2026.  Montgomery Community Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Montgomery County DHHS will host a park cleanup day on Friday, Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Matthew Henson Trail in Silver Spring with on-site registration starting at 10:30 a.m., where volunteers will remove tobacco litter and learn about local tobacco prevention and cessation programs to boost public health and environmental care.  The MoCo Show

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Gaithersburg’s Quince Diamond Executive Center at 555 Quince Orchard Road sold for $7.56 million in an online auction on November 5th—Transwestern managed the sale with bidding starting at $4.3 million. The six-story 108,989-square-foot office building, built in 1990 and 37% leased including the Woodlands restaurant, offers optional use or redevelopment for retail or residential purposes—buyers have flexibility in planning its future.  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • Montgomery Blair girls soccer lost in a penalty shootout—Severn Run won 5-4 after the game ended in a 3-3 tie and double overtime, which ended Blair’s season. Bethesda-Chevy Chase remains the only county team left and will face Severn Run in the state semi-finals on Nov. 7.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County high school football ended its regular season as Quince Orchard (9 to 0) shut out Gaithersburg 35 to 0 and will defend its state title in a rematch Friday, while Sherwood, Churchill and others gear up in the (4A and 4A/3A brackets) for their playoff games. The rankings set the stage for postseason matchups across the county.  The MoCo Show
