BUSINESS NEWS

  • OpenTable released its November ranking of the most booked restaurants in the Maryland — DC Suburbs based on nearly 500,000 diner reviews. The list mostly featured Montgomery County venues and included Gaithersburg's Sixty Vines, known for its seasonal menu and 60 wines on tap.  The MoCo Show
  • Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken secured its permit to begin construction at its new Montgomery County location at 13811 Outlet Drive in the Briggs Chaney Marketplace, where it will replace the former Metro PCS space between Mimi’s Perfect Nails & H&R Block. The location could open as soon as early 2026.  The MoCo Show

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nicole Murray-Lewis, a social studies teacher at James H. Blake High School who once taught at Gaithersburg High School, was elected as the teacher member of the Maryland Board of Education with 39.8% of 3,624 votes cast. Her appointment will be sent to Gov. Wes Moore and is subject to confirmation by the State Senate.  Montgomery Community Media
  • John Glodek of MLK Middle School was named Middle School Physical Educator of the Year by SHAPE MD after the November 15 convention in Ocean City. He has taught P.E. since 2002 and leads the innovative Riding for Focus (cycling program) that builds students' skills and confidence.  The MoCo Show
  • School board members elected Grace Rivera-Oven as president and Brenda Wolff as vice president on Thursday; their one-year terms will start Dec. 1—Rivera-Oven, formerly vice president who filed for re-election, represents District 1 while outgoing president Julie Yang runs for a county council seat.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Dozens of families spoke at the Montgomery County School Board meeting Thursday night about proposed boundary changes that may shift middle and high school assignments in the region—many are concerned these changes could also affect local property values. The district presented four options and added a proposal to use Crown High School as a temporary holding school, drawing strong community reactions.  FOX 5
  • The Montgomery County Board of Education elected Grace Rivera-Oven as president and Brenda Wolff as vice president during its Nov. 20 meeting. Rivera-Oven, a Gaithersburg High School graduate who founded a nonprofit, will start her term on Dec. 1—Wolff returns as vice president after extensive civil rights work.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Moore launched a free vaccine program on Thursday to give uninsured and underinsured adults ages 19+ access to vaccines including COVID-19, flu, measles, pneumonia, shingles and RSV — the program is run by the Maryland Department of Health and funded through a $2.8 million partnership with the General Assembly. Health departments in several counties now offer the vaccines, with more locations set to open soon.  WTOP
  • Montgomery County’s Office of Acquisitions reported fiscal year 2025 saw a record $274 million awarded to certified Minority, Women and Persons with Disabilities companies—making up 21.21% of $1.29 billion available—while awarding $133 million to local small business providers through LSBRP, the largest share since 2009. County officials said the awards show progress in reducing barriers and expanding opportunities for local businesses.  Montgomery Community Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Maryland launched a free vaccine program today to offer recommended vaccines to uninsured and underinsured adults at local health departments in four counties—Baltimore, Garrett, Montgomery, and Somerset—with expansion planned in coming weeks. The program, funded with $2.8 million, aims to reduce vaccine-preventable illnesses by improving outbreak response and access to care.  The MoCo Show

  • Baba Oladotun, ESPN’s 8th overall high school basketball recruit from Silver Spring, signed with the University of Maryland after narrowing his choices to Georgetown, Arkansas, Maryland, and Kentucky—he will enter college early as a reclassified student.  FOX 5
