- ➤ AAA reported that more than 1.6 million Washington-area residents will travel this Thanksgiving weekend, with most driving and facing heavy traffic congestion. Drivers can use the new I-495 Express Lanes extension—opened after more than three years of construction—to help avoid delays. FOX 5
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Wootton High School in Rockville was evacuated Monday morning after staff reported a gas smell near the boiler room. The fire department and Washington Gas arrived to test the odor and school officials said students might be moved to nearby Frost Middle School if space permits—no one was allowed to re-enter until the building was cleared. - ➤ Mark Pappas, the founder of Pappas Restaurants — a key part of Maryland’s dining scene for over 50 years — passed away peacefully at 93 over the weekend surrounded by loved ones. - ➤ A student at Odessa Shannon Middle School was seriously injured last month when a metal object was thrown during physical education, and emergency care was provided (the injury involved an open skull wound on Oct 22) while the student's mother criticized school officials (MCPS) for allowing the alleged offender to return to class. - ➤ Montgomery Parks beat its stormwater runoff target by treating water from over 71 acres—more than the required 66.5 acres—to help protect local streams and meet Chesapeake Bay goals. - ➤ Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services will open free registration for two limited whiskey lotteries on Nov. 30—letting residents and alcohol license holders try to purchase over 500 rare bottles including George T.
