- ➤ Several Maryland communities earned national livability honors after AARP’s index ranked Montgomery County second while Rockville, Gaithersburg and Takoma Park received high marks & Howard County was named a new top performer. The MoCo Show
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Kentlands sees openings as Andy’s Pizza at 145 Commerce Square Place and Onekick Martial Arts at 255 Kentlands Blvd are now open, while Mattress Warehouse, Tatte Bakery and Quincy’s Golf and Social will launch at 245 and 112 Kentlands Blvd — Saul Centers plans three restaurant and retail buildings. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County native Peter Rosenberg, who built his local radio career before joining New York’s Hot 97, ended his nearly two-decade run at the station — closing a historic chapter that tied his Chevy Chase roots to the hip-hop scene. The MoCo Show
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools signed a 10-year lease for 161,500 sqft at 750 Progress Way starting in July 2026 for $43 million, and will invest an additional $13 million for interior buildout with partial occupancy expected in September or October next year. The MoCo Show
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Wes Moore announced Friday that he will allocate nearly $500,000 for a climate change cost study, reversing his earlier veto. Administered by the comptroller’s office using SEIF funds and a $30,000 grant, the study report is due Dec. 1 plus a legislative session Tuesday may consider an override. WTOP
- ➤ Maryland officials announced a study to find out how climate change is costing taxpayers by measuring storm damage and heat risks. The fully funded RENEW Act study will use philanthropic + state funds and was set up on Friday, Dec. 12 to guide future planning. The MoCo Show
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ MedStar Montgomery Medical Center earned bronze Level 3 accreditation (GEDA) for geriatric emergency care, underscoring its specialized training, protocols, and community partnerships for older patients. The hospital said it will use feedback to improve care as it prepares for reaccreditation in three years. The MoCo Show
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County’s Animal Services and Adoption Center in Derwood will hold a free pet adoption event on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 with appointments on Saturday (walk-ins on Sunday if space allows).
