- ➤ A fundraiser has been launched for the Duarte family after a fire on Monday, Dec. 15 damaged their Aspen Hill home on Beaver Terrace and displaced four adults, one child & a dog with an estimated $400,000 in losses. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said there were no injuries. The MoCo Show

- ➤ The Compound Fight House, a veteran-owned martial arts gym, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $150,000 after receiving a 60-day eviction notice due to long-term flooding damage + the owner says the funds will cover disputed back rent and legal fees. The MoCo Show
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools celebrated 127 top scoring student winners from local SkillsUSA competitions held during the week of December 8 at Thomas Edison High School of Technology. The events offered students real world experience plus opportunities from local business partners such as a meal and tour for culinary winners. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools began rolling out a new color-coded badge system to improve safety and speed identification during emergencies. The system assigns blue for administrators, red for educators, purple for support staff, yellow for security, and white for contractors and volunteers — applied in every school building. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MCDOT announced winter holiday transit changes: Ride On, Metro and MARC trains will run on weekday schedules on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve while shifting to Sunday schedules on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day — county offices will open on Dec. 24 and 31 and close on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. - ➤ A study by Zanes Law found that Maryland remains the toughest state for a driver’s license even after dropping parallel parking from tests in 2015 — new drivers must score at least 88% on the written exam — a fact that could affect Gaithersburg residents planning to take their road tests.
