- ➤ Toys for Tots in Montgomery County is short of donations this holiday season, and they need toys for teens and adults with special needs. Donors can drop off contributions at a temporary warehouse on 8569 Atlas Drive until Monday, Dec. 22, with a fundraiser in Burtonsville Friday from 6-10 p.m. Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ Moby Dick House of Kabob (a local favorite) is offering 'Catering for a Cause' this holiday season by donating a full entrée to a local shelter with each catering order through Jan. 1. The restaurant has a record of charity work, including free sandwiches given during a government shutdown. WTOP

- ➤ Construction has begun at the former Best Buy site on Shady Grove Road, slated to become Montgomery County’s first Hobby Lobby. The store is expected to open in the second half of 2026. The MoCo Show
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The D.C. Independent Film Festival has launched a new online hub called Y-CAM.org for young filmmakers aged 13 to 19 to connect with professionals and access local resources. Special $600 production awards are available for emerging filmmakers in MD, VA, PA and WV with the first deadline on Dec. 31. WTOP
- ➤ Visitors can view the original .44-caliber bullet that fatally wounded President Lincoln along with skull fragments and a surgical probe at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Silver Spring, a display that features items transferred from the Lincoln Museum in 1956. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Montgomery County was ranked second-best on AARP’s Livability Index for older residents, which validates its 10-year effort as an Age-Friendly Community (with 22 percent of residents aged 60 and over). - ➤ On Thursday, a 13-acre French Château-inspired estate at 11900 River Road sold at auction for $13.3M after price cuts from its original $49M listing. The former owners donated the property to benefit the American Cancer Society. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Montgomery County high school sports ended the fall with multiple state titles + Quince Orchard secured its second consecutive Class 4A football title at 14-0, Clarksburg's girls flag football team stayed undefeated, and Winston Churchill golf clinched its 17th Maryland state title this season.
