- ➤ Montgomery County Councilmember Laurie-Ann Sayles thanked residents for donating enough first aid and relief supplies to fill two truck loads for Jamaican flood relief after Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica on Oct. 28. - ➤ Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service began equipping every fire engine with smoke evacuation hoods after the Diaz family donated lifesaving gear in memory of their daughter, Melanie, who died in a 2023 high-rise fire. - ➤ Samsung Biologics said it will buy GSK’s Human Genome Sciences plant in Rockville—its first U.S. site. The deal will close by the end of Q1 2026 and keep over 500 employees as the company upgrades technology and expands capacity. The MoCo Show

- ➤ DARCARS Automotive Group and DARCARS Toyota donated $230,000 Monday, Dec. 22 at the Montgomery County Board of Education meeting room to clear two years of student meal debt for families qualifying for FARMs. The contribution eased financial burdens and removed a barrier to student success. - ➤ Montgomery County Government reminds residents that the Bring Your Own Bag law takes effect Jan. 1, 2026, ending plastic carryout bags and imposing a 10-cent fee on paper bags in participating areas such as Gaithersburg — retailers cannot charge the fee on food assistance or restaurant transactions for prepared food.
