CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Roy’s Place is a local landmark known for its 23-page menu and over 200 sandwiches. It opened in Rockville in 1955 and moved to Olde Towne Gaithersburg in 1971 before closing in 2013, leaving lasting memories in the community. The MoCo Show
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four MCPS teachers were honored by the Military Bowl Foundation and Wegmans under the Extra Yard for Teachers program. The awards went to Argyle Middle School’s Carlesha Douglass, Gaithersburg Middle School’s Megan Hinton, Flower Hill Elementary’s Martha McKinney, and Springbrook High School’s Matt Pflieger. - ➤ MCPS Physical Education Supervisor Dr. Cara Grant shared a video on Tuesday that honored Dr. George B. Thomas Sr.'s Saturday School program, which began in 1986 and served over 3,000 students in Montgomery County (the initiative continues to impact local learners even a decade after his passing). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Recreation announced free RecFit passes will be available in 2026 to offer residents access to fitness and game rooms plus open gym drop-in activities at local centers. Residents must sign up in person with proof of residency and renew their pass annually. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Ray Castro, a Montgomery County native, left his CPA career to focus on fitness and music, coaching others with his personal training business and performing acoustic gigs as Mr. Swiftie.
