ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Fire and Rescue and U.S. Park Police responded to a medical emergency on Billy Goat Trail A around 1:15 p.m. Saturday when temperatures neared 90°—crews found an injured hiker in a remote area and airlifted the patient by helicopter using a hoist extraction. The MoCo Show

- ➤ Three Brothers Italian Restaurants—a long-standing Maryland dining chain with 10 locations including a Rockville spot—was sold to new owners, ending the Repole family’s over 50-year legacy that began at a 12-seat eatery in Greenbelt; the new team plans to continue the tradition known for its pizza, pasta, and famous homemade sauce. - ➤ Detectives from Montgomery County Department of Police are asking for help finding Brandon Lee Smith, a 27-year-old autistic man who was last seen on July 21 at 2 p.m. near the 5400 block of McGrath Boulevard in Rockville (he is 5-foot-3, 125 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes and was wearing a black shirt and pajama pants) and advise calling 9-1-1 immediately if he is spotted. - ➤ Today, Governor Wes Moore announced Maryland’s new Single Benefits Application that lets residents apply for food, cash and emergency assistance through one accessible portal—designed to complete in about 28 minutes and available on cell phones while covering programs like Medicaid, SNAP, TANF and WIC. This effort comes as part of the state’s initiative to streamline access to vital services. Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ Maryland Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman and Governor Wes Moore launched a statewide campaign to boost awareness and uptake of the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit after data showed 99,000 eligible tax filers did not claim the credit last year—this initiative will expand outreach with free tax filing help, updated fact sheets, and findings from an Urban Institute study, using over $300,000 in funding to improve access. Local agencies and partners will help share accurate tax information throughout the year. The MoCo Show
- ➤ Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services began an internal investigation after an employee made an inappropriate comment on a Montgomery County Police Department social media post.
