  • A Gaithersburg woman won $30,000 on a $3 Loteria scratch-off after buying her ticket at Germantown Wine and Beer on Frederick Road on August 1 at Maryland Lottery headquarters. She said the win offers a chance for a financial reset and a fancy dinner (share of the news kept limited to her sister).  The MoCo Show

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a reported vehicle fire at Shell station at 7620 Lindbergh Drive where employees had already extinguished a work truck—no injuries were reported.  The MoCo Show

CRIME NEWS

  • Detectives from Montgomery County Police Special Victims Investigations Division are asking for help finding missing children Wise Da’Science Dickerson and Linyia Fields — Dickerson is 10 and wore a dark blue shirt with black pants while Fields is 13 and wore a pink shirt with blue jeans — who were last seen near Feathertree Way and Christopher Avenue in Montgomery Village. They said anyone with information should call the police Non-Emergency hotline at 301 279 8000.  The MoCo Show
  • Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Special Victims Investigations Division are asking the public for help locating missing 16-year-old Serenity Rush who was last seen on July 21 at 5 p.m. on Medical Center Drive in Rockville and is 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 120 lbs, has black hair and brown eyes, and was wearing a beige jacket and black shorts.  The MoCo Show

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County Council will hold public hearings in September on the University Boulevard Corridor Plan and a proposed bikeway parking ban. The UBC hearings are set for Sept. 10 and Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. (at Montgomery Blair High School Auditorium and the Council Office Building) while the bikeway hearing is scheduled for Sept. 30 at 1:30 p.m. (sign-ups close Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.).  The MoCo Show

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tari Kandemiri — known as Official Lax Girl — visited MOCO Lacrosse campers at White Oak Community and Recreation Center on Friday to share her lacrosse experience. Born in Zimbabwe and a Nike Lacrosse Athlete who played in the Lisboa Lacrosse Cup with the USA All Stars, she aims to show local youth that success in the sport is within reach.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County native Katie Feeney was hired by ESPN as a Sports & Lifestyle Content Creator on August 4. She will appear on weekly ESPN shows such as Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown and College GameDay—her 14 million followers and strong local roots from Sherwood High School highlight her unique background.  The MoCo Show
